XML Pipelines with Cocoon 2 and JDO and JDO

by chromatic
ONJava Newsletter for 07/03/2003

Dear Readers,

Welcome to yet another ONJava newsletter. Your editor is looking longingly at the three-day weekend that starts in a few short hours, so there's no time to waste. Here's what's new in the world of open source Java:

New authors David Cummings and Colin VanDyck debuted this week. One of the lesser-known insights about URIs is how well they map to pipelines and requests; Apache Cocoon takes full advantages of this knowledge. In "XML Publishing with Cocoon 2, Part 1," David and Colin explore Cocoon's sitemap — how components and pipelines are registered with the server. Once you understand this, it's easy to publish and transform XML source with this powerful framework.

We have two book excerpts this week. The first comes from David Jordan's and Craig Russell's Java Data Objects. This excerpt gives an architectural overview of JDO, including how it interacts with datastores, and gives several examples of JDO environments. There are plenty of diagrams.

This week's second book excerpt is the final excerpt from Java Database Best Practices. Author George Reese discusses using JDO as a bean-managed persistence tool in "JDO Persistence, Part 3."

Next week will come to you live (or sleep-deprived) from OSCON 2003. Don't fret; we'll have our regular coverage as you've come to expect.

Until then,
