Coarse Grained BMP beans with Dependent Value Objects is a draft pattern. The pattern describes how to properly implement the equivalent of Dependent Objects in BMP, and provides a fully resuable implementation as an example. The pattern does not describe the motivation for dependent objects, that is a separate pattern and you can learn more about it by reading the EJB 2.0 specs or Sun's ejb-interest archives.
